Intelligence

Deep, uniquely-Singapore research for the people building businesses here — the market, the players, the real economics, and where you win. The reports we wish existed. Produced by our AI engine, sense-checked by us.

The signature metric

Every sector, scored on one question: is it worth building?

We score each sector with the MOAT Score — a single number from 0 to 100, where higher means a business is more worth building. It is built on the value-investing lens of Graham, Buffett and Munger: instead of describing an industry, we judge whether a value investor would want to own the average operator in it — and if not, what a winner needs that the average lacks. The name is also how it is built — four pillars, each scored out of 25:

MMargin

Does the average operator actually keep money — real net margin and return on the capital tied up?

OOperating moat

Pricing power and a durable competitive advantage — can a typical operator raise prices and have customers shrug?

AAppetite

Demand durability — steady, recession-resistant repeat demand vs fragile, discretionary or faddish.

TTreadmill

Capital intensity and structural drag — rent, churn, fashion, discounting. Scored inverted: less treadmill, more points.

The MOAT Score is a transparent SGAI judgement on a sector’s economic quality through a value-investing lens — not a verdict on any individual business, and not a comment on an owner-operated livelihood (a sector can score low on capital returns yet work as a job).
